Overview

This year’s Art Taipei, Han Art will showcase the emotional power of flat painting through the outstanding works of five artists from different nationalities.

Cen Long’s paintings are filled with profound emotion and noble philosophical thought. His work, resonating in emotional universality and exceptional technique, has gained significant recognition in Europe and America, beyond Taiwan. Yasuko Hayashi, on the other hand, paints her devout reverence for nature. Her semi-abstract and semi-concrete style depicts secret havens, not realistic natural scenes, but spiritual and mysterious worlds. Chiu Dou employs a purely abstract language that stems from feelings. His heart wanders through buildings, across meadows, and seas, with colors mixed into the black and grey pencil lines, creating a gentle and sensitive world.

Alberto Alvarez combines memory and imagination to create spaces of unfettered freedom for exploration. Budapest artist Tibor Simon-Mazula explores the essence of existence. His unusual perspective candidly captures the instantaneous moments of the figures in his paintings. He turns these dynamic moments into static ones, like a paused clock, silently existing, speaking volumes without sound.

Additionally, we have a section ‘Indomitable Ukraine,’ featuring the latest works of four artists from Kharkiv. They are enduring the hardships of war; some have become refugees in Germany, while others remain in Ukraine, living under the fear of conflict. They have recently used their brushes to bravely express their feelings about the war; pain, sorrow, reluctance, fear, but most importantly, hope for the future.
